Bristol Whiles

Dr. Bristol Whiles, MD

Dr. Bristol Whiles is an Assistant Professor of Urology at the University of Kansas Health System. She completed her medical school as well as urologic surgery residency training at the University of Kansas. She then went on to complete an Endourological Society Fellowship at the University of Florida. Focusing on Minimally Invasive Surgery and Endourology, this prepared Dr. Whiles for specialization and expertise in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), complex stone disease, ureteral obstruction, and robotic surgery for both benign and malignant conditions.

For enlarged prostate treatment, she offers multiple minimally invasive procedures including holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). For kidney stone treatment, Dr. Whiles has expertise in obtaining her own percutaneous renal access as well as in minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy and ureteroscopic stone treatment, allowing her to treat both very large and complex stones.

Dr. Whiles utilizes the Da Vinci robotic platform for minimally invasive urologic procedures such as ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction repair, ureteral reimplantation, and resection of small renal masses. She is trained on both the multi-port robot as well as the newer, single port robotic platform, which can be utilized in certain scenarios.

Her research interests primarily focus on stone disease including evaluation of new technology, artificial intelligence, and BPH. Dr. Whiles has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters. She is also involved in both resident and medical student education and mentorship.

Dr. Whiles strives to provide a patient-centered care experience. By increasing the patient’s knowledge and understanding, it can empower them in the shared decision-making process. This helps to ensure treatment options are tailored to each patient’s specific needs and treatment goals.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending quality time with her family and fishing in the great outdoors at the farm. Dr. Whiles also loves to travel and check out new places that have day hiking routes and a fun culinary scene.
